Hey everybody!!
This week was the bomb. We have been adjusting to our new
area. It is small but cool. There is not a single paved road here its all just
sand, which makes it super hard to walk, and a lot hotter in the afternoon. There is so much dust that gets into our eyes. The members here are also super
awesome. There are only 3 families and they are super excited that we are
here. We live across the street from one of the families and they are always
giving us food. Every morning the mom comes and delivers us breakfast, then at
night they make us eat dinner with there family. Its the bomb, I'm just worried
that I'm going to start putting on some weight. So my comp and I have gone
running in the morning with a member at 6 am. Its been fun, but I'm pretty lazy so
we will see if I can keep getting up, lol. Also we live in a full on house.
Members were living there but they moved out but left everything in the house. We
have a fully furnished kitchen, living room with couches, we had a nice flat
screen TV (but our zone leaders said we couldn't have it), we have a nice
speaker system. The only problem is the bathroom is horrible, the toilet doesn't
have a cover so we have to squat over the toilet to use it, and there is no
shower, so we fill up buckets and dump cups of water on ourselves. It sucks.
But this Wednesday they should fix it up.
Two stories:
Since its a brand new area we are opening up we haven't had
appointments so we have been knocking A LOT of doors. And one afternoon a door
opens and its a 20ish year old girl and she's like, you guys are Mormon's right.
She then told us that she heard we don't believe in God and worship idols, and
said she's super confused. And that she has been waiting for us to knock on her
door so we could explain to her about our beliefs. It was super cool, and I felt like God really did send me to this area for a reason, to find people who
have never had the chance to talk with missionaries before.
Other story we were teaching a lesson, and at the end the
lady asked me a question, and what I heard was ¨ En su pais hay otros plantas?¨
(in your country are there other plants). I was a little confused cause I thought it was obvious and kind of a dumb question, so I told her yes, we have
different types of plants in the states. Then she asked ¨Y hay riñones¨ (and
are there kidneys). And that got me super confused, because I knew that a riñon
is a part of a body but I couldn't remember what organ. Then I didn't get why
it related to plants. Then in hit my mind she said transplantas (transplants)
and not otras plantas (other plants). It was a really embarrassing mistake. Then
she asked me if I could help get a transplant for her husband.
That's about it for this week! It was super cool! more to
come! Everyday is the best day ever!
Love,
Elder Luke Gruber
