Week 74: Busy, Busy, Busy

Hey all,

This week flew by, mostly because Wednesday we had our multi zone conference with president all day, then we had interviews on Thursday that lasted basically all day. Then Saturday I got to travel to a super cool town called Chulucanas about 1 hour from Piura.

Also in my new area here we have been struggling to teach people mostly because when I showed up we didn't have a lot of people. So me and my new companion have been knocking tons of doors and talking with tons of people, but really haven't had much success. But this week the Lord blessed us greatly! We found 2 super amazing families that when we knocked their door they let us in and their entire family was super excited to listen to our message. In their homes we were able to feel the spirit super strong and it was amazing! We have seen some super amazing miracles recently!

Also this week me and my companion made banana pancakes and they were delicious!!! and then we made waffles! Today we ate chili's tacos and salad. One of the best foods I've eaten in so long!!!

That was about it for the week, I've just been working super hard in super hot weather! Just making everyday the best day ever!

Week 73: 500 Miles

and I will walk 500 more!

Hey all,

So this week was a super awesome week but also pretty long! I'm in my new area and we were just filled with lots of work, we have just been working super hard to find new people to teach! The funniest thing that happened was Tuesday morning. My first real day in the area we wake up got all ready and we planned out our day and at 8:30 we started studying and we get a call. My companion picks up the phone and he tells me that our recent converts house just fell over and she needs our help, that it was an emergency! So we stop everything and walk about 30 minutes to the edge of our area. Turns out my companion heard her wrong, her house didn't fall over but a snake entered her house and she was to afraid to go inside. So she hands me a machete and says go in and kill it. So I find it but it just runs away and for the next hour we just looked for this snake but didn't find it. Then by that time we couldn't go back to our room, so we just knocked doors. We literally worked from 8:30 until 9:30 pm with only 1 hour for lunch. It was a long day but super fun!

Today for lunch we were going to eat papa johns but me and my companion decided it would be better to not spend tons of money and get fat. so we bought pringles and a milkshake from burger king and that was our lunch! it was delicious!

I have seen tons of miracles as I work harder. We knocked so many doors this week and talked with so many people, and I really saw so many blessings. I like a scripture in D&C 24: 12-"and in all times and in all places he shall open his mouth and declare my gospel as with the voice of a trump, both day and night, and I will give unto him strength such as is not known among men." I really felt that extra strength from the Lord this week as I walked so much and was physical so exhausted but everyday I woke up ready to keep fighting! It was really a great blessing. I know the Lord is always on our side ready to help.

Also I loved the talk "Come what may, and love it" by Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin from the 2008 October conference. I recommend you all look it up and read it. One of my favorites.

Everyday here is the best day ever!!!!

Week 72: Transfers and Baptisms

Hey all,

This week was an amazing week, and I hope all of you also had an amazing week. It started Tuesday going to Piura to listen to the doctor of the area talk about our health and our posture. Then on Wednesday I had an intercambio with Elder Galbraith from Jackson Hole, WY. It was so much fun and to finish it off we slept the night on the roof. It was the coldest night I've slept in a long time!

Then this Saturday we had 2 baptisms. Sister Maria Pacherrez and Mercedes Giron. They are both super awesome and it was super cool to see their lives change during the time that I had taught them! Also this week were transfers, and I left Huangala. I am now in an area called, Tacala 3 in the zone Miraflores (its like 15 minutes  outside of Piura, but basically its Piura). My new companion is Elder Crawley from West Jordan Utah. He only has 4 months in the mission so it should be a super fun 6 weeks! It was super sad to leave Huangala, it was the best and I'm going to miss it a ton, but lots of new adventures ahead! I love you all so much! Everyday here is the bestest day ever!

Week 71: New House

Hey all,

This week we finished building our house, putting up the doors, finishing the bathroom, and then moving all of our things. The room is a lot smaller but it is a lot colder inside. We are still working on getting every thing organized!

We have lots of super awesome investigators that are progressing really well. Just lots of hard work under the hot sun.

Today was a super awesome day, we started by playing soccer in sullana, then did our shopping, then had a water balloon fight with our neighbors. It took forever to fill up all the water balloons but it was super fun! Then my companion brought out his shoe polish and start covering people with shoe polish. I got it the worse my face was covered. It took so long to clean. But it was a blast and the best part was all day there was no sun, it was overcast all day!

Honestly that's about it for the week! I want to write more but I ran out of time! I'll write more next week! I love you all a ton! Everyday here is the best day ever!!!

Week 70: 90 days

Hey all this week was awesome,

I don't have tons of time to write today, my time got cut short, so this will be a very short letter, and sorry I didn't answer all your question or didn't reply to all your emails.

The highlight this week is that our president has invited us to read the Book of Mormon  in 90 days. So I have been putting a lot of focus in my lecture. I am learning a ton and invite you all the read the Book of Mormon everyday too!!

This week we had a power outage for over an hour at 8 pm! We had to teach a lesson by flash light, and it was super weird, but it worked.

Also this week we went running twice about 2 miles in the morning and we ending up super sore and tired we walked like penguins all day! The members made fun of us!

We have been building our new house this week. We have been putting up dry while, putting up the roof etc, its been an experience. We are probably going to move this week. It is just next door to where we are living now. So we don't have to move far. We will be neighbors with the members!

Well, I love you all a ton!!! Everyday is the best day ever!

Elder Luke Gruber
