Week 62: Dead Duck

Hey all,

This week was really good!! I had a blast and the highlight was on Thursday morning. It was a members birthday so they let me offer them service by killing their duck!!! It was my first time I actually killed something to eat it. I then helped the member pluck all its feathers and prep it for cooking. They then did all the cooking and we went back to enjoy a typical Peruvian meal, rice and duck with potatoes and huanciania. We then egged the member (she was turning 13) with 3 eggs, she got super mad and started crying and had to shower for like 30 minutes to clean all the egg out of her hair (it's tradition, not being mean).

Also the temperature here continues to rise, it is getting hotter and hotter, which also means that so many mosquito's are coming out! I get bit on the daily by hundreds of mosquito's.

But by far the best part of the week was Saturday when we had a baptism for our investigator Rolando. Last Monday I didn't think he was ready yet and I had plans to move his date 2 weeks back to help him prepare more. But my companion wouldn't let me because he thought otherwise. So all week I prayed about it asking what we should do, but didn't get any answer. Then on Thursday we had the make or break lesson, and as our investigator testified of baptism I felt the spirit super strong confirm to me that Saturday was the day. So we pulled a lot of strings and this Saturday he was baptized and on Sunday confirmed. Our town of Huangala is growing well and we hope to become a family group soon!!!

Also last Monday I downloaded the new book released by the church called Saints! so I have been listening to it when I have free time and it is so good!!! I definitely recommend it to everybody!!

That's about it, this week we have nothing planned so its going to be a long week of just hard work in the sun!!! Everyday here is the best day ever!

Love,

Elder Luke Gruber
